Description
The Hot-Cold Pack can be used for both heat therapy and cold therapy. Hot-and-cold therapy is useful in a variety of conditions. Generally, cold therapy is used for inflammation/swelling and heat therapy for muscle pain.
Cold therapy works by reducing blood flow to a particular area, which reduces inflammation and swelling that causes pain, especially in joints. It can relieve pain by temporarily reducing nerve activity. Bruises, insect bites, and repetitive strain injuries such as tendonitis respond well to cold therapy. Cold therapy helps in the reduction of inflammation, oedema, and bleeding in injuries. It can also be helpful in reducing toothache, headache, and fever. Cold therapy is beneficial for muscle spasms, whiplash, and various forms of arthritis.
Hot fomentation increases blood flow, delivers needed oxygen and nutrients, and removes cell wastes. The warmth decreases muscle spasms, relaxes tense muscles, relieves pain, and can increase the range of motion. Like cold packs, heat packs help ease pain from both acute and chronic injuries, such as sprains, strains, muscle spasms, whiplash, and arthritis.
Alternating heat and cold therapy may help reduce exercise-induced muscle pain.
